So just when I thought that my tank been coming together pretty good, my 90 gallon bow front decides to leak on me..... AGAIN! I've redone the upper and side seals in the past due to a minor leak but now it's leaking from the bottom of the tank, right behind the trim and it's pretty bad to where a towel will get completely soaked within a half hour. So I decided it's finally time to get the tank replaced.

Now I emptied it out the tank and I have my livestock in a 30 gallon rubbermaid tub and my live rock in another 30 gallon tub right next to each other while my sand is still in the tank with just enough water to cover it completely.

Do you think that the sand will be fine if I leave it in there until my new tank arrives on 1/13 or should I take it out? What do you think?

Also, I have to let me LFS know by this friday whether I want a corner overflow built in or a center over flow. Please feel free to chime in and help me make a decision.

Thank for the advice and comments in advance!

Get new sand and trash the old, and get a center overflow the larger the better.

Agree on getting new sand and the largest overflow possible.

+1 Definitely get new sand. When you stir it up it will release all kinds of trapped ammonia, etc.

As you can see from all the other posts, just get some new sand, and rinse it very well. And I would go with a center overflow personally.

Thanks everyone for you input! I too was leaning towards the center overflow cause my tank is visible on both sides so I would'nt want to see the pipes behind the overflow box and I could also set it up to have 2 return pipes so it has better flow on both sides of the tank.

Now as far as the sand goes, do you guys have any recommendation as to what type of sand to use?

I was using sand from Home depot in my 90 but I remember it took alot of rinsing before I could even use it cause there was alot of fine powder and even after i got it in the tank the powder would kick up very easily so I don't think I would want to go that route again...
