Recently, there has been this brown stringy looking stuff in my fuge. It's growing really quickly so i wanted to find out what it is and if i should get rid of it. It is actually doing a good job of mech filtration. Any ideas? K+ for any help u can give. Thanks.

there is red velvet in the corner it looks like, some hair algae and the brown stringy stuff like like it could be from the lack of flow and its the mucus the corals are releasing into the water column. not 100% id have to see it in person. id up the flow tho

Yeah, but it's my fuge though. Isn't it supposed to be low flow?
I actually want all the other types of algae like red slime etc down there, because i think it prevents them from growing in my display. What I'm worried about is if this stuff will spread into my DT. It seems to be anchored to a piece of coral skeleton on the sand bed so i was thinking it was some sort of algae.
    Thanks.

I'm wondering about the brown stuff behind that.

I would get it out somehow, and get a bit more flow in there if possible. There's supposed to be LOW flow, not NO flow.

Try to look at images of dinoflagellates (in the marine aquarium). ReefCleaners.org has a section on bad algaes.

Hopefully that is not it, but take a look.
