I bought these at the LFS and all they could tell me was that they were not mushrooms and they were not anemones. I have searched around but can't find a definite match. The closest looking specimen I can find is a fuzzy mushroom. I know the pictures aren't the greatest. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the ID. When I looked through google images for "hairing mushrooms" I couldn't find anything similar. I searched for "rhodactis" and I found several positive IDs.

I just recently bought a couple of these. Just curious if anyone knows what they require to live healthy. I have a Tunze Protien Skimmer, an Ehiem wet/dry bio filter, an Ehiem mechanical filter, and 2 pairs of flourescent lights (each pair consists of 1 blue & 1 white).

The owner of the store (place where i get my fish, live rock, etc.) suggested i do not put in any anemone's before upgrading to a metal halide light. Otherwise, im gonna have have to carefully watch the mushrooms that i got and add supplements/food for them when necessary. So...how am i supposed to know when they need the supplements, and how often? Also, is the lighting i currently have adequate?

The guy also suggested i add a water pump to increase the circulation in the tank.

Most inverts/corals feed off zooxanthellae within their bodies and need a strong light source in order to survive. Different kinds require differnt flow rates as well. We would need to know what kind of bulbs you have the wattage, and then the amount of water you are pushing around in your tank.

Risin, I wouldn't go back to that local pet shop, or atleast get another opinion, it doesn't seem as if the person you talked to about the frilly mushrooms couldn't give you a definitive answer/description of a mushroom.
Talk to someone knowledgeable so that you know what you are buying! If you are in question about a particular coral etc. regarding husbandry, combatability requirements, you should be able to get correct answers to make your selection/decision appropriate and a wise one!
This will help to avoid problems down the road for you and your tank mates.

Im running a 65 gallon tank with an Eheim mechanical filter, an Eheim wed/Dry filter, a tunze skimmer and 2 pairs of flourescent 42'' lamps. Each pair is made up of a plain white and actinic blue lamps. Im assuming that each lamp is around 25 watts = 100 total. Dunno??
