It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Seems to going around, there are several threads currently with this snotty looking growth.

It does not look like the type of Dino I had.

I would physically remove by siphoning it out.

    Wish I could help more.

Thank you for the Quick reply! and also for the keyword "snotty" used it in the search and CHRYSOPHYTES came up! I'm undergoing a recycle do to changing of DIY rocks to dry southsea rock. so if the the ID is correct they should just die out on there own(silica based bacteria).

Hehe, I was going to say bacteria... Do you carbon dose, or run biopellets?

No i don't run carbon or bio pellets.. just going to run heavy GFO and switch out filter socks daily. I'm thinking the 60 pounds of base rock added fueled this.. Thanks!

well it's been over a month dealing with this unknown horror. and It's winning the battle. it has over run my tank. no matter how hard I clean the rocks the next day it reappears. I haven't done a water change hoping it would starve out no success, all my live stock seems fine..

Have you tried a black out or raising the pH or Alk?

I blacked out for 3 days, dosed hydrogen peroxide for 10 days, someone suggested running cuprisorb for a week to remove any iron from water. so thats what I'm trying now.. I'm pretty sure its non-photosynthetic. its growing my my sump that has no light..

How old is the tank? Leaching something out of the sand bed?
