Got this coral from the LFS as it had been there for about 3 months and since it looks so ugly no one got it but i did because i wanted to observe what it did and find out about it.

it looks like a sinularia flexibilis except that it can fully retract into its base of which is not solid calcium carbonate but is very much like the inside of a leather with shards branching off into the substrate. it lives in the substrate and is not attached to a rock.
it periodically comes out and goes into its body every few days and doesnt apear to have dominant extended polyps.

it came with a pest snail on it of which when out of its shell its exterior lobes cover the top of the shell giving it a dence textured brown exterior that is fleshy although when disturbed it retreats into its shell showing a creamy/pink shell. it appeard to be feeding on the exterior of the coral hence it was removed and in qt.

here are some pics of the coral extended and retracted and also the snail.

if anyone has a possible id of the coral and or snail please jump in also if anyone has any experience id be happy to hear of it.

thanks p.s sorry for the poor quality

There are very few reef safe cowries. If that's a Carnelian Cowrie, it definitely isn't. Can you put it in a piece of tupperware to get a better picture? Also, poke it with something and take a picture of the shell.
