If you try the vinegar put it on with a sponge.. all over. Then let it soak in for a few minutes. If it is a calcified substance it takes a little while for it to soften up with vinegar.

Since he said "glass" I assume it's glass.

    Pics would help.

I work with and sell glass every day in my professional (HA!) life. There's not a lot of common things that would etch glass, but if you don't know what the tank was used for previously, it's possible someone had it etched for some non-aquarium related purpose.

The best ideas have been mentioned already...

    pics. we need pics.

this is a pic, it has nothing to do with this thread, I am simply putting it here as an example of what a pic is:

Its glass im short not stupid. I was informed after i purchased it and had it home that the tank had sit empty for about 6 months. You can see where someone did a tiny circle where there is no film but ive literally tried everything. Its literally been soaking in vinegar fince the day i posted this and still nothing. Im on too tight of a time frame to be messing with this anymore so i went a puchesed a brandnew 75g and stand like i should of in the first place. Im in the process of moving and have to be out of my apt and into my house by may 1st i work 6 days a week 12 hrs a day so i literally have 1the day a week to work on moving. Ill be setting up the new tank letting it cycle as long as i can and then transfereing all my livestock to the new tank. Then ill setup my 55 gallon as a fowlr. Thanks for trying to help im sure with enough time and work it would clean up but i just dont have the time to try and mess with it anymore

MY current 125 sat empty for over 4 years, everything is a little different, but still kinda the same, only a little different.... but I digress,
And I certainly never thought you were stupid.

One of my favorite lines is 'I may tralk slow, but I'm not stupid.

I applaud your work ethic, and really wish you good will and I hope all goes well with your new home.
When you're ready to get your system set up, we'll be glad to see it.

Again, congratulations on your move, etc.

Thanks todd. Like I said I'm sure with enough time and effort it would come off but I'm very limited on time right now especially since I been working so much, in the middle of moving and also trying to find time for my wife and two kids. But even at only 22 years old it takes a lot out of me idk what I'm going to do in another 20 years lol. I'm very anxious to get the new tank going. Tomorrow is my day off and the tank will be up and cycling come hell or high water.

You might consider keeping the tank for quarantine tank or to use as a sump?

Both great ideas but it's much too large for either of those ideas in my case.
