Thanks for all your suggestions, guys. It looks like I'm now skimming again although when I finally did get the skimmer dialed in, my settings are somewhat strange. I'm running the mag7 wide open (valve completely open, not throttled back). The air valve is completely open. The gate valve, however, is set so that the water level is about 1/2 inches into the foam tower. AquaC had previoulsy advised me to run the gate valve and air valve wide open and throttle back the Mag7. However, adjusting the Mag7 always resulted in the water level dropping in the foam tower. I must add that last week I cleaned all the components, including air valve, spray injector Mag7, foam tower and colelction cup. Even though the production of skim is not continous, it does appear that my current setting is producing on a daily basis. So I'll leave it this way and see what happens.
Thanks again for all you help and encouragement!

nice name! I rarely see it spelled like that.

Yep, it is your water level. Internal skimmers must have a constant water in order to stay dialed in. Some skimmers can handle a flux in water volume more than others.

I ran my Mag 7 wide open, but had the water level where recommended at the junction. All that really matters is that a higher water level will give wetter skimmate and lowering it will dry it a bit. So you can adjust it and it will be fine.

GC Carrol brought up a good point.... anything you do in the tank will kill the foam so don't worry about that. It could take a few hours on mine to reestablish.

OP did say he has a constant water level in his sump.

Glad it is working out for you, they are great skimmers once dialed in.

I'm glad to hear that you have had a similar experience Powermen. I'll start adjusting the level when it has been running for a while.

I agree, it is a good point and one that I'm all too familiar with. Even when the skimmer was working consisently a few months ago, it would stop skimming for several hours after feeding. That's why it was so difficult getting it back onn track. I had no idea if it was not skimming due to a problem with my settings or not skimming because I had just fed or dosed with phyton etc .. but the skimmer quickly recovers after it does start skimming
