IMO as long as you keep the chaeto from blowing all over the place by keeping it in the seperatecontainer it will work fine. I did take the foam filter off of my pump though to keep any pods from being trapped in it. You want some flow through the chaeto but you want to keep it in one place as well which is why you have the top of the container a few inches below the water line in your fuge. My setup was thrown together in a bit of a rush but it has worked out fine for me so far i will try to post or send you a picture later if you would like. In summary it doesnt matter what the flow through it is as long as you somewhat protect the chaeto from it. The pods will get sucked out at a nice steady pace and will still be able to breed
