Looks like a bad case of ich, possibly marine velvet. The best thing to do is to take it out and put it in a quarantine tank to treat. You can use a copper based medication designed for ich. You can buy a reef safe treatment but success with this is hit or miss.

looks like ich to me, not sure on possible cures but it's def. a bad thing that could kill the fish, hippo tangs and tangs in general are supposed to get ich more easily then other fish

i dont know if anyone else can't see it either, but i can't see the photo. In any case if it doesn't come off (if it were sand), its probably something bad. heres a web site they may help. Fish Disease, Diseases of Fish, Medications & Fish Health Treatments

and btw, if your fish is sick and needs treatment and you plan or are keeping inverts, you need to setup a quarantine tank (pretty easy and simple_

He has it bad. Quarantine is in order so you can treat it. Do not use copper in your main tank.

:eek::eek: Yikes that looks bad!! i think one of the best hints about "treating" ick is to keep his immune system healthy and vital, make sure he eats good foods enriched with garlic and whatever else poeple on here suggest and lots of it(im not too good with knowing the vitamins and whatnot ;D) i just got my black clown goby off of ick with a steady diet of really good flake foods enriched with garlic and he is doing sooo much better, he was completely covered and now i only see a few specs.

I'm sorry, that wasn't very helpful, but if you have to...go to Walmart and buy a cheap 10 gallon with a filter and get it in quarantine adn treat with ich treatment (copper based if possible) now!

ich infested definitely. Move to a qt if possible for treatment, if not then pray for the best!! Ick is like the flu... a healthy fish can fight it off but the outcome is a coin toss...

ok so how would i set this qt up? what kind of equipment do i need for it to run. i have a spare heater and powerjets that i use to prepare the sw when i do a water change. i had one of those hangon filter things for my 10gal a while back. it was one of those cheap ones with the filter bags that had black carbon rocks. not sure if that is safe for the salt???
