I am wanting to buy a good quality skimmer without breaking the bank. In the past i would have gotten by with just doing water changes, but i have decided i would like a skimmer added to my setup. Lets just say my budget is $200, but if the value was there and the skimmer was of high quality i would spend the extra cash (within reason). Im working with a 10x10 area for the foot print and my water level sits at a steady 8.5 inches, i've set it up to not fluctuate. Now this is for a 27 gallon cube, and i know that these skimmers are quite large in comparison, but I would rather buy big in case i decide to upgrade tanks in the future.

These are the skimmers i have been looking at for the last month or so. Which would you go with? Or is there another you would recommend?

Reef Octopus NWB 110 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer - AquaCave

Vertex IN 80 In-Sump Protein Skimmer - AquaCave

    Thanks

I would go with the Vertex of the two. Eshopps and SWC also have excellent skimmers.

I have the Eshopps PSK-75H Hang On protein skimmer installed a couple months ago on my 27. I am very happy with it so far. Pulls lots of nasty skimmate out.

I would go with the Vertex. or and Eshopps PSK 75.

If you aren't running a sump, I've heard the Hydor Slim Skim has gotten good reviews as well. It is a hang-on tank skimmer meant for nano tanks. Your 27 would be a great size.

Well I do have sump (10 gallong) and I literally just placed my order with aqua cave for the vertex IN80 less than a minute ago. Also, got a salifert mag test kit coming. Its the only test i didnt have.

whew, spent a lot of money today, also bought a mac book pro today.
