Yeah, that would be me. The thread is here. The 1000 is rated up to 100 gallons. The 2000 up to 150 gal. Honestly, the 1000 will be more than enough for a 46. If you upgrade your tank, you'll probably want to get a sump, in which case purchasing a HOB thinking it will follow you with an upgrade would probably be shortsighted since you'll most likely want a nice in-sump skimmer anyway, not HOB.

Be warned the skimmer is very massive and very red and will have quite the in-tank footprint in your tank. Even more so above the rim. It hangs quite high. Take a gander at my thread. You'll need to make sure you even have the room above the tank for your light fixture as it hangs out into the tank a lot too. The 2000 even more so I believe.

The problem with the 2000 is the pump is externally mounted and louder than the in-skimmer version of the 1000. The plus side is it gives you much easier access to it if you need to remove it.

If you go with any of the models you listed, grab some black krylon paint, painters tape and some newspaper and go to town on it. Looks MUCH better black. Also you can replace the bright blue sponge in the tank with a black one that you can find in the LFS.

All that said it kicks the snot out of my 55 and pulls much more darker nog than some name brand in-sump skimmers I've seen.

so i think im going to go ahead and get the cone, from the pictures that octopus sent me it looks much smaller than my current skimmer and ill just spray it black like the above mentioned. Im still going to go ahead and do more research to find the dimensions and do some more reading up on it.

Thanks all for your help, i will let you know my final decison

I like the cone skimmer. might stick out a little. The other 2 seem like they would be more hidden. Do you have a sump your going to hang it on or just your main DT?

looks like size wont be an issue, the only problem is tha from my wall to the tank is exactly 7" and the width out of the tank is exactly 7" so thats the only problem there it would be a very tight squeeze between the wall and my tank

thats going to be almost to tight. you'll have to hope it fits. if not your going to have to cut some drywall or drain the tank and move it out an half-inch. good luck
