    Hi everyone.
I have a 4 bulb t5 fixture and i am in the process of swapping out my bulbs. I know that i will be going with wavepoint bulbs, 2 sunwave for daylights and one reef wave(violet actinic). i really like the violet/ purple look.
For my last bulb i want to go with either:

coral wave (actinic and red light)
I can't find any reviews on this bulb. Has anyone ever used it? I'm worried that an increase in red light may cause algae issues. This bulb is supposed to be good for growth though. I think this bulb is pretty similar to a fiji purple though so any experiences there may help as well.

Super blue actinic (actinic and blue light)
This bulb is similar to an ati blue plus bulb. Can't find reviews here either. My supplier said some of his costumers find that it makes their water appear cloudy. I kinda prefer the look of the purple better, but i would get this if it would be better for my tank. Any experiences here?

You can find info and charts here:

    Thanks for any help.

have you looked into ATI bulbs? I understand if it's a cost issue or if the WavePoints are easier to obtain for you.

I had a 4-bulb TEK Elite fixture and was able to support Clams (on the sand), many LPS, & a few SPS under this combo (great PAR for these):

    (front-to-back)
    ATI Blue +
    KZ Fiji Purple
    ATI Blue +
    ATI AquaBlue Special

I know there's also a new ATI Purple Plus bulb available but haven't checked those out yet, that could go in place of the KZ Fiji Purple. Currently I run a TX5 5-bulb fixture with a similar combo of bulbs & everything is growing wonderfully.

There are tons and tons of positive feedback on these bulbs and if you can afford them I would def go that route, you're getting a great amount of PAR for the $. You can get them via www.reefgeek.com which I also highly recommend.

Concerning WavePoint bulbs, I haven't heard anything blaringly negative on them, I recall an owner saying they were decent when I was looking to buy the Wavepoint fixture a while back.

On a sidenote, the fixture also has a lot to do with bulb performance, does it have individual reflectors?

    The fixture has individual reflectors.

The problem is because of availability and price. My LFS doesn't stock them bc of the high price. they would be twice the price of the wavepoint bulbs if he were to bring them in, that would be about US$64/ bulb.

The wavepoint bulbs seem to be really good bulbs but my main concern is adding the red light to the tank. i was reading about some people that said fiji purple bulbs caused algae in their tanks, so i wanted to see if that was the general consensus or if it's just a couple cases.
It would be great if someone had a shot of the super blue or coral wave on their tank.

    k+ for ur input

I don't have any more issues with algae using a UVL aquasun bulb, which is similar to fiji purple than I would with any other bulb...

I have not experienced any algae growth from using a fiji purple. I would think the coral wave would be similar to the fiji based on the spectra graphs.

Ok, i guess algae isn't really an issue then. thank you and thank you for all your help from before via pm. k+

I was thinking of maybe going with one sun wave, a reef wave, coral wave and blue wave. i wont do this if the sun wave has the most PAR though. I can't find any PAR comparison between the bulbs. I think a daylight bulb should have more PAR than the 50/50 bulbs, especially since they are the same brand. Am i correct here? If they all have about the same PAR then i would base my selection just on color preference.

what corals are you going to be focusing on kss2801

as I would be tempted to go
    2 x sunwave 12K
    1 X Coral wave

and 1 or either super blue / or reef wave actinic

then I would have the 2 x daylights on for 8 hours each day
and the Purple and blue lamps on 1 hour before and go off 1 hour after for the dawn dusk type effect

That should be a good mix, tank will most likely have a mellow bluish light. I don't think there is that much difference between the daylight and blue bulbs. Usually in T5 bulbs blues have a little more PAR then daylight.
