I'm trying to decide which tank to buy...I've pretty much decided on one of the MarineLand Glass Deep Dimension tanks.

Which tank would you buy and why?

200 gal (48x36x27) Anyone have one of these? Are they too square?
    250 gal (60x36x27)

Or will I regret the deep dimension tank? This will be my first tank, plan on using it for reef.

    Thanks

I would always go bigger. More room to expand in the future with your fish and coral. If you have the budjet to spend on lighting for it then I dont think you will regret getting a deep tank at all.

    How long are you arms?

I honestly say neither. Go with a "long". I have a 200 long. it measures 84"X24X24. So much more room for everything, and takes less light to grow corals.
Of course, this is just my completely biased opinion ;)

Hah! I actually have gorilla arms and I'm tall, so I'm not all that concerned about it...

    I'm thinking MH...will I need 450s or will 250s suffice?

For those two tanks you will need at LEAST 400's

i agree with pack, the longer the tank the more room the fish have to swim at faster speeds. Pack's tank dimensions are close to what i would like to upgrade to in the future, but everyone has different likes.

Less depth, less light. I would go long, wide, but shallow. The bigger the tank, the better, but with the larger size, wider and longer will be better in the long run - especially for a reef.

But also, its all in personal taste. Just because I like long, wide, shallow tanks does not mean you have to. But there are advantages to them. It's much easier to aquascape, provides more room for the fish, and requires less intense lighting. But it sure requires a lot more room space.
If choosing those two, bigger is always better, but you have to consider the budget aspect as well. The 200 you have listed will light up well with 2 MH's, the bigger one will take three. There is also more rock and sand and blah blah blah. But, IMHO, go as big as possible. I am sure glad I did. And the big tanks are not cheap. Don't settle on a few particular sizes because that's all craigslist or your LFS has this week. This will be a huge, very long term investment, both in monetary and your free time/enjoyment aspects. Make sure YOU are 100% on what YOU want, whether it be long and shallow or short and tall.
