IMO, once you have tangs if you get rid of them you'll miss them. I hate to be preachy and maybe this isn't the right place for this, but a lot of people think that keeping a small hippo tang is okay to keep in a smaller tank, but in reality its not the fish, its the species. In the wild even small tangs swim up to 25 miles a day. Many people have tangs in tanks as small as 90, you just have to watch for stress.

Well, it isn't always about the money but what you enjoy most. I have a few tanks, and my 20 gives me alot of pleasure, and easy to maintain. The 55 was a nice thought, but too small for anything big and cool, and yet harder to take care of as it had a hob overflow which was a pain. That tank is going to be the turtle tank.

I have my 225 which is being repaired, and I keep thinking, what the hell am I thinking. Who will take care of it if I want a vacation? What if I move? How much time do I have to spend cleaning vs admiring. I like my 20 in the bedroom also, as it is a great meditation dream land before sleep.

But my vote is for the 180 also :)

PS: keep the 90 for sump/fuge and maybe even partition for other uses.

180g will give you a much better reef with the depth it has.

I like everyones reasoning...if it wasnt for parting with my 3 year old maroon clown and my tangs i would prolly go with the 50 gallon sps but im gonna have to order the 180. Im gonna sell off the 90 with the tank and stand for rock and stuff...I would keep as a sump or fuge but its just to tall to be a sump and to large for a fuge on top of having a sump....dont wanna have to heat or filter 300 gallons of water.

I am going to go the other way. I have my tanks in areas of the house that are travelled the heaviest. My 90g is in my dining room and my 10g is in my bedroom. The 180 is a great tank. It is. I love the size and you can do pretty much anything with it. The major hang up is time spent looking at the tank. From my perspective, I spend a lot of time in my bedroom because my good TV is there and I like to hang out with my wife in what I consider the most relaxing room in the house. A 50g tank would rock. I have my 10g next to my dresser and if I could increase the size I would in a second. It is all about where you would be most of the time. JMO of course.
