I only have time to write this after 14hr days at my burger shop, so I'm a lil tired When I get my iPad to lay down for bed. I missed a few things :-/.
My tank is about 2 1/2 months old.

I do have purple up, I've put a capful in almost every day now for 3 weeks. Around the 6th hr of my lights being on. I have my 2 MH lights on for 6hrs a day. The T5's are of for 12hrs. My temp does rise and is nearly always hits 84 during day and cools down to about 79-80 at night. So my solution to that is I will hang my light and put a fan atop the tank to blow air. Problem solved! I was planning on doing that. Thanks to MrSaltwater TV.

My snails, I truly think that will help clean up my tank as well. Will adding about 30 snails at once will that effect the tank in any way? I want like 3 more turbo snails they mow it algae down good. I just tested dKH again and it is 6. I will raise to 10 over next week. My food is TetraMini tropical flakes. I feed a tiny pinch a day, like 20 flakes (seriously I count it every time don't ask why).

When I did my gravel I only did one half my tanks sand and only the sand in the front so honestly about 30% of my bed. The water was VERY VERY VERY cloudy and lots a particles.

My HOB filter has never been cleaned only the filter inserts and Active carbon have been changed. They have twice since birth of tank. Along side the other sleeves and my bags of carbon, about every month, so twice since birth. I wash my skimmer cup and neck every week. I use RO/DI, UV Sterilazed, Active carbon water for my auto top off.

My Phosphate is Zero my reactor is doing a great job.

Plans for tank this next week. Hang light, more macro algae, raise dKH, raise SG to 1.025, more snails. Any suggestions for other things?

    Hope this helps more.

Alright, fans will help bring the temp down, the con is water evaporation, the pro is make sure your topoff water is about 78 and add it slowly this will help maintain good temp 84 scares the blank outa me 80 is a little high to me, some reefers run there tanks 75 get the temp down and back off a little on the purple up until your algae are under control it contains iodine which will fuel all types og algae. seed the tank with purple by scraping it into your tank off a rock. this will help promote coraline. Purple up = marketting. Check the label its just a calcium addative that you can get more for cheaper. I wont call it snake oil cause it does what it advertises, it help coralline grow because it likes calcium. lol.

I still didnt see how old you lights are, if they are more then 9 months you may want to consider that. You also should consider shortening the light cycle on your halides. I would bring it down to 8 hours or less until you get the algae under control.

Your media as a general rule should be changed out monthly.

Your dkh definitely needs to come up some.

Your phostphates are test zero cause the algae is using it for food.

You may want to consider changing food for a while, while you only feed a little flake is generally known for being high in nitrates.

Yes your temp is high, and you really need to consider raising them and or adding fans to get that lower.

At 2 1/2 months you should not be disturbing the sand bed at all.You are doing more harm then good.IMO

purple up does contain iodine, after you already have an algae problem it will help feed the algae, trust me on this one. trace elements should be held back until bad algae are under control, no water changes unless you have really bad readings, high protein skimming is great, turkey blaster use it. kalkwasser slowly driped to keep calcium levels high. if you have alot of detrius, a gray material around the rocks vaccum it out, take out as little water as possible, run lights long enough to keep all corals happy, turn all lights out at the same time. increase clean up critters, this will rid you of this bad algae. and start increasing coraline algae growth. Ok, my test levels are calcium- 500, KH-8, Phosphate-0, Nitrate-40, pH-8.2, Ammonia-0, Nitrite-0.

So I'm on my way to Lowering my Nitrate, I think the 2 chaeto macro algae clumps are doing well. They have lots of flow, should it tumble around or stay put? Also I'm getting a thin sheet of algae on my glass every day still. Water is clear but glass is always getting covered. Along with my live rock, seems like it is light or dark green on the tops of every rock.

I'm going to the fish store next week and getting some PH up, and sea salt and some snails.. What do you suggest I get?
