I have a 30 gallon that has been running for 4 months. I had some algae problems and lots of debree. so i upgraded my filter and need help figuring if i have enough flow and how to arrange everything.

I have a 30 gallong with 35lbs of rock that i make a wall against the back of the tank. i have a fluval 405 filter, 2 hydro #1's, an aqua c remora.

My biggest prob was all the debree settles behind my rocks an i could see gray ash looking through the reef. 1. is this enough flow and if not what do i need. 2. how should i arrange and point everything. ie the intake for the fluval is long and winds up just above the sand, its that ok or should it be higher? where should i put it behind the rock, in front, on side, and where do i put the power heads and how to point them, are they powerful enough. the fluval output is in the middle of the tank and sits about 3-4 inches below the water line. thanks!

I have the Fluval 305, and in the setup instructions is says to trim the intake so its about 3 inches off the bottom. Also it seems no matter how I arrange the tank there is always dead spots in the rocks and stuff, where detritus collects. I usually just use the gravel vac when I change the water and hit the dead spots.

I would upgrade your Hydro 1's to 2's
I have a 55 setup and am installing 2 Hydro Koralia 3's in it this weekend

In both back corners pointing down and to the opposite corner. I also have one in the bottom pointing across the back of the rocks where you cant see

alot people point them toward each other so you get random flows. but the goal is to minimize dead spots where detritus builds up.

a good rule for flow is 50xtanksize(gallons)= the amount of flow
30x50=1500gph the gph rate of all your pumps and powerheads should add up to around that number
