    Hello everybody,
My husband wants me to get a Led unit for my 120 gallons and I dont know much about lighting to start with, I am doing some research but I know that you guys are good so lets talk about it.

I was looking at the boostled 135w unit, it seems to have good review so far and I would need 2. they don't have a built in timer and they are $399.00 each thats about all I know about this one.

And orphek par-156 has a unit for deep aquarium and compare to a 400w metal halide from what im reading it seems like I would only need 1, it has built in timer and I beleive its about $840.

I have no idea which one would be best but all I know its that if i am buying one mind is well get the right one.

I would appreciate all your help, right now I only have softies and a few lsp but I don't know where this hobby is gonna get me.

Could you tell me what you think?
    Thanks

I just bought the BoostLED 135 for the 45 gal cube I'm setting up. Light was awesome when I tried it. It does come with 2 chords so you'd be able to use timers on each. They had a sale Super Bowl weekend - $50 off.

You are comparing apples and oranges. In the end corals may be happier with the Orphek also it will probably put much more light into the tank. A lot of planning went into the design of this fixture.

I am not sure any LED is capable of producing drop dead colors on SPS (at least I have not seen it yet) but at least Orphek is researching and building fixtures that produce the light that the corals should thrive in.

Of course this is IMO, but I could be swayed to think otherwise if someting comes out to contradict my views. There are other LED products out there that you may want to consider also.

I own boost led and love it, that being said i would likt to see the pros and cons to both in real time. PM them both or they can pipe in at any time :) and see what they say.

What are the dimensions of your tank? Unless it is really tal with a small footprint, you will need at least two LED fixtures no matter what.

you will need 2 to unless you have like a 4 or 5 foot tall tank.

also I would probably go with orphek, but thats only based on what they claim, which is they provide there own LED bulbs specially made for corals.

where as basically every other LED vendor happens to use LED's that are already available that are closest to what they need.

My tank is a 120 deep so 48"x24"x24". so even with orphek I would need 2?

You will need 2 of the Orphek and 2 to 3 of the BoostLED depending on the corals you wish to keep.
