Okay here is the deal...My tank has been up and running since Late December of last year.....If it can go wrong it has....(mostly my fault) But anyway the deal now is, I put in a very tall photosynthetic gorgonian and a few days later added a bubble coral, (very pretty bubble) Well any ways the gorgo fell over on the bubble a few times and it would close up so since I dont have a real deep bed I fragged the gorgo down to three tree's. I got up yesterday and my tank was real cloudy and everything tested out real well I am down to strips now so the test werent to accurate but stable enough. Today when I got up my St Thomas Bubble Mushroom's were sagging and my Kenya Tree;s were closed and hanging over like they were dead. My Bubble was closed up and looking pretty bad and the Leather was balled up, I went to the store and talked to the girl there about it but she indicated she had no clue about anything except running the register so I got some salt and mixed it and let a powerhead run in it for a couple hour's. I know I should let it set longer but I thought a water change was really needed pretty quick, So I done about 10 gallons of water and while I was doing this I was trying to figure what could go toxic and the only recent changes (except the 2 additions) was the fragging of the gorgo. When I cut the tree down I just stuck the frag's in a hole in the rock, I took the gorgo out before the water change, it seems everything is coming back up the way it was a few days ago. THe thing's in my tank are 1 green chromis one blue damsel. 5 Kenya Tree's and several green striped mushroom's and some other different colored mushroom's. Some kind of Leather one bubble coral two st thomsa bubble mushrooms and one flame scallop my water test fine before and after. tHE question is...What became toxic in my tank? ( it is back up now and looking better) I pitched the gorgo thinking it had to be the problem. Can a gorgo become toxic or is there some kind of chemical warfare going on here? THe Bubble was about 3 inches from the gorgo and five inches from the kenya's. What could have happened here? Almost everything in my tank suffered from something....I know it is a weird story but my whole sw experience has been a trip....Any ideas on what happened....thank you for your time....

A photosysthetic gorg is non-toxic. I have one before with no problems. Stuck in the rock is the right way to do it. Sticking a gorg in the sand will actually cause an infection.

I am going to guess that your bubble got pissed off. But it is just that, a guess.

keep reading and re reading this post Danny

I cant think of anything obvious in there that I could associate a problem with
the species you have, minus the gorgonian are all species I keep together or have kept together without any major issues ( even before I utilised carbon 24/7)

the clouding of the water could be a coincidental bacteria bloom and not directly related to any of the inhabitants

what is your filter system at present (whilst your setting sump up?)
I do recall from other posts you have had issues with your skimmer
if you are using strips, may be a good idea to get the LFS to run water tests?

did this issue arise before or after you introduced that freebie "grumpy" Zoanthid rock?

are you running carbon? if so, how much and how often do you change?

are you adding anything that might have caused the cloudy water ? I know you use live phyto , could it have got warm, left out the fridge or the fridge went off etc went bad and thus caused the cloudy water?

wish I could just point and shoot on this for you

    no worries Danny
    fully understand

are you running any carbon? may be a good thing to use it or to renew it of you already are, just in case there are some nasties in there

Everything looked good for a while after the WC but this morning the leather is closed which is not unusual, the bubble mushrooms are back to sagging the kenya tree's have some limbs laying on the rock under them that they had released. The bubble is deflated Nothing is dead as far as I can tell. If the Bubble was to close to the gorgonian and did release some toxin would the toxin affect the bubble also or just the others? And how long does it take for a tank to recoup from something like this?

I am not running carbon, my powerfilter died a while back. The Skimmer is doing pretty good now.
