JohnO why is it illegal for ya'll to have them. That is strange. Everytime those little things hiss and spit at me it scares the pants off of me. They are so loud and do it when I least expect it.  I'm really getting tired of them peeing and pooping  and bitting me. The female had projectile diarrehea yesterday and got it all over me. I had my husband turn her up side down for the first time so that I could get her to pee into a kleenex . She peed and peed and peed some more and then here came the diarehea. I took care of that just fine to until she got upset and it came flying at me. I think she was actually aiming for me on purpose. That little ****! The boy behaved a little better when we whiped his bottom. At least he just had lettle pellet like things that came out.  The joys of motherhood!

    Cindy,

Most of the 'wild' animals in Australia are protected. It's only illegal to collect these animals from the wild without a permit. We also can't import animals from other countries easily because Australia is free of Rabies and other like diseases.

Anyway, I already have a possum in my backyard that hisses, pisses and shits on me, LOL :)

Just out of interest, how do you deal with there natural nocturnal natures?

Jay, these are Sugar Gliders. I had never seen them before until last week.

They are kin to the possum family and are marsupials. The female has a tiny little pouch. They can't hang from their tales though like a possum.

They are native to Indonesia. JohnO can tell you more about them than I can.

I need to finish reading the book on them.

JohnO, they do sleep all of the time. We have these warm little pouches that we wear around our necks that they ride in. I guess it makes them feel like they are in their mamas pouch. They hiss every now and then and when we take them out they always pee and poop. I'm trying to take a paper towel when I take them out and wipe their little bottoms so they will do it in the paper towel rather than my hand or shirt. It really stinks.

Close to bed time they are stirring around more. Eventually we'll get them going at least in the late afternnon or early evening. Maybe we can get their little internal clock readjusted. We'll see. At least when they are asleep in your lap they don't bite! Actually they are getting a lot better about not bitting.

You mean you actually hold that possum? I bet when it pees and poops its not just a few little drops.

    Have fun with your possum!

    Cindy,

No, the possum is much too big to hold, about the size of a medium cat, but with bigger claws :)

It just sits in the trees at night and waits for me, I'm sure LOL

Ya'll are so funny! I guess that's why I love ya so.

My brother used to have a pet possum. They had him for at least a year and were heart broken when he ran away. I think they had him housebroken somehow.

My Father may be moving to Australia for work. He had to implant a chip into our Siberian Husky. The chip is used to identify the dog for the strict vaccine laws. When the dog arrives there is a 6-month Quarantine process. Sounds like fun.

    Cindy,

This is what MY possum looks like

    http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/ring_tailed_possum.htm

He lived in my ceiling space for a while, but we got him out and resealed the roof so he couldn't get back in :)

We have some strange regulations here regarding these animals. It's illegal to kill them, and if you trap them you have to let them go in the same place you found them, ,meaning you can't catch them and let them go somewhere else.

Anyway, apart from some occassional screaming ( no comment needed from you Annick ) and fighting they didn't cause me too many problems

    SF,

Tell him not to worry too much :) The Quarantine places will be like Doggy Day Spa and the Husky will love it :)
