NOTE: Please vote if you know with experience, or have an educated thought. This is something I need help with and do not want uneducated/inexperienced votes to influence my decision. Thank You Kindly

Well its time to complete my thoughts on airflow in my canopy....

    Im stuck

Canopy is completely closed at back wall.

Theres two different options I have.

I have 4 4" Smart Cooling fans by Coralvue

here are my two ideas. (excuse the images ;D)

Option A - Having two fans on each side blowing in. With holes at the top for ventilation where air will be forced out drilled holes in the middle of the ceiling.

Option B - One fan on each side blowing in and two fans centered in the ceiling exhausting out. Creating a balanced airflow.

I used 2 120MM high output ball bearing fans by Yate Loon ( PC fans, e-bay, $8 each) and a molex to ac adapter from newegg ($15) - then one dual fan by some company I can't remember, sorry I'm a bit drunk - I will post that later when I get my wits back - all blowing out of the canopy. Total cost, lest than $50. My chiller never kicks on with 3 250w halides.

Hmm, I see both ways being used, with fans blowing all in, or half the fans blowing in and half blowing out.

I think all 4 blowing in with heat rising to the top as in your first option is the better way. The air is going to want to escape anyways, you shouldn't have to force it out.

Im actually leaning towards the route of the two blowing in on each side...

Just need to make sure I have good ventilation at the top fr the air to escape...

Sucking the hot air out of the canopy if more effective. Adding cold air in addition to the hot air is not as effective.

Going by the way computers are ventilated, you really don't want to keep pressure higher on the inside of the fixture than on the outside - it leads to a really inefficient system because of the inconsistency in the flow. Any little opening will let air out, not just the big holes, which causes lower flow on portions further towards the holes.

Either go with a lower pressure on the inside, as ZachB did, or go with the one on each side, 2 in the middle strategy. I might do it with the 2 in the middle blowing in at angles, one towards each of the bulbs, and the two on the sides blowing out. I might also do it with 2 on each side, one side out, one side in (across the whole fixture), depending on the airflow in the room, if I knew it; just another option to consider.

one of these strapped to the back of your tank blowing air in will do the job for you. I have a buzz too, been at the pool all day and watched the spurs game.. If those dont work, take all your fans and attach them to the back of the canopy blowing air in.. I can feel the parts of my canopy where cool air is being pulled in and the hot air pused out. it works like a champ without havng to see the fans..
