I purchased 2 small mushrooms from my LFS. I have no exp with these. LFS mentioned that it takes quite some time for the mushrooms to attach themsleves to a surface. He suggested that I take a small rock frag and use a loose rubber band to hold them. Has anyone ever heard of this??? Its now been 3 hours and my mushrooms turned from large and purple in the store, to tiny and dark blue. the rubber band is loose ...just enough pressure to hold them to a 4 inch rock frag. HELP

the rubber band method may work , but I have found out that its not the best method with these softer corals
bridal veil or mesh netting strips are much kinder wrap them over the shroom and tie them to the rock ( these wont cut into the shroom when it expands a rubber band if its to tight can)

    alternative

place rock in a plastic tub and then place shrooms on top of rock in tub (sandwhich box type tub)

the plastic tub walls prevent water flow, blowing the shroom about and thus even without using any securing the shroom will eventually adhere to the rock, then you can move it to where you want it (where the shroom likes it)

Ya, eliminate all flow around him until he is on good. They do take quite a while. if he does not attach in 48 hours he is not going to. There are glues you can use but I never liked that method.

Thanks for your replies. Steve, I used the tub method ...unfortunately the shrooms were pretty much gone by the time I got them there. Im still acclimating myself to the "reef" part of a marine tank ...it was a recent transfer from livestock only. Thanks to those who replied ...I appreciate the effort to assist. Perhaps next time I will buy shrooms already attached to a rock frag. PS- Rob ...is that a g*n??

Eliminate all flow around him and just give him time to attach. It took one of my mushrooms 4 days to attach
