    Hi everyone!

I got this Frogspawn from my LFS about a week ago, and it looks like part of it is dying off. I have a 75 gallon tank with LR and a few fish, and three small soft coral frags. Not dosing with anything, just 10-15% water changes every two weeks. What can I do to help?

    Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate - 0
pH - around 8 I think, but the API test is hard for me to read. Any better ones?
    Salinity- 1.023
    Lights - 4x96 PC (2 white, 2 actinic)

    Thanks!

Good luck. I had a 3 head hammer. Out of the blue one head died off, the next day another then about a week later the third died off. Never found out why it just died. I bought another one put in the same spot and it's looking amazing. Stuff just happens.

Your not using dip strips for your ph test are ya? Those are really hard to read, the color on those can be anywhere from the low 7's to mid 8's. You could be way off and not even know it. The one I use is similar to the salifert one I believe and works really well. I will double check the name of it tonight.

I would raise your salinity slightly, and I would start dosing with calcium or if you want since the frogspawn is the only LPS you can just get trace elements and dose your tank with that. Also if you have PCs you might want to raise your frogspawn up a bit towards the lights and see if that helps.

*I'm using the API master SW kit with the drops. Between 7.8-8.2 is basically "brown" with a bit of purple as it gets higher. I usually can't quite tell.

*Since adding the corals, I've been sloooowly raising the salinity. Going for 1.025 I think.

*I'll try puting it higher in the tank. Would "Kent Marine Essential Elements" be a good choice?

    Thanks!

Don't add any supplements, especially since you're doing water changes. You simply don't need them. Also, I'm under the impression that your coral is a torch coral, not a frogspawn.

i agree with it being a torch instead of a frogspawn. maybe its all coincidence, but are torches tougher to keep? i had on die, and lots of others ive seen have dead heads and eventually die.

I can't really say for sure but I've never noticed any thread "trends" in the forums that would suggest that torches are any harder to keep than a frogspawn.

How much flow is it getting? They don't like too much.

It also would be safest to check your calcium/alkalinity/magnesium to make sure they're acceptable. You don't have a lot of corals to eat it up but maybe your salt is deficient in one or the other.

It could just be due to stress from moving from one system to another as well. Especially with your salinity a little on the low side if your LFS was higher there would definitely be stress from changing salinity levels.
