not enough info to even hazard a guess.
    tank size?
    water parameters?
    filtration? wet/dry? sump? fuge?
    list of inhabitants?
chemicals you dose? type of salt?

    Welcome to 3Reef!!!

If you have a heater, I would make sure that it is underwater to the proper depth too.

did you clean the carbon, or replace it?
If you just cleaned it then throw it out and put new carbon back in.
and inwall has a good point, I had a heater go bad and start makin ozone in my tank once, that smelled pretty nasty at the time.

you only have to clean the dust off your new carbon with ro/di water. If you are getting like a sulphur smell are you useing a prime or amquel or some other ionizer? That could have a reaction to the carbon as it will remove it from the water.

That was my first thought, carbon can smell exactly like something burning. Next time rinse it thoroughly.

Make sure your cords are not getting saltwater dripped on them. I had maintance come out a couple years ago and they readjusted my cords. They velcroed them thinking it would be safer, however the velcro came loose and somehow created a path for water to drip down the cords onto the surge protector. I got up that day smelling something burning and could not find it. I was painting so didnt think much about it. Then it kept getting worse and worse, and my dog ran to the tank. I opened up the sump and with that a flame shot up from the powerstrip. I flipped the wall switch right away and thankfully nothing really happened except it burned a few cords and the powerstrip.

But just check to make sure nothing is dripping and get a GFCI (I cant remember the name but one of the ones that flip off when water gets in them) outlet
