It looks like bryopsis in your pictures, not hair algae. That's why none of the proven solutions have worked, you're fighting the wrong battle.

If you are losing your invertabrates like that I would test your SG. How are you testing your SG? Is your LFS using a refractometer to test it or have you had them test it?

I have always used a hydrometer. My next purchase will be a refractometer. I hear that they are more accurate.

In response to the other post, this is GHA not bryopsis. My pics might not be the best, but it is fine, dark green, and soft. I looked up pics of bryopsis and it is not what I have.

Very interesting. Where did you purchase a standalone DI chamber and how did you hook it all up? Also, I have to ask...what is GFO? which biopellet reactor did you choose?

Sorry, but bryopsis is very easily, and very often misidentified.

    I wish you luck.

IMHO, you should read the threads on ATS setups. They can be very cheap and why not try one? Just a thought.

I have read that on two different sites and it is very interesting. But if you look at the end of the posts it seems that it was abandoned bye everyone. I might have misunderstood though but the post on this site got pretty ugly (lots of insults) and so far I have not found that it is being used much. Am I wrong? I was pretty excited and then was discouraged. Still on the table though

ALGAE CONTROL : Nitrate, phosphate and (D.O.C.) It's for sure you know how to take care of your tank, it's been shown that when Nitrate and Phosphate show low readings then it's a good chance (D.O.C.) dissolved organic carbon. Keep doing what your doing and add Ozone and Tangs scrub rock first, they like the shortes tuff's.
This is a fun read both ways, you may want to give this a try:)

    Anyone please help!!

So I need to get back to my original quest. I have GHA and need some assistance.

In my opinion, I have eliminated all nutrient sources except:

    • lighting fixtures - LED 88W x2 combination blue and white - Could the have changed frequency?
    • room lighting - not dark but no direct sunlight on tank
    • refugium (mud bed) - could it be a nitrate factory?
    • LR - could the source be inside the rocks?

I am attaching another pic...this was taken 5 DAYS after I took the rocks out and scrubbed them. Which could also mean that I added another potential source; I scrubbed each rock with a toothbrush in tank water and then rinsed it in RO but I didnt "'spray" it I just dunked it in RO, shook it off and placed it back in the tank. There could have been GHA possibly still on or in the rock I guess.

Could the lack of initial good husbrandry have caused issues inside the rocks? I cook the rocks?

I will start reading on DOC as I am unfamiliar with it. How does it get into my tank?
