Help needed with new protein skimmer...

Hi Everyone... I am completely... and utterly new to this forum and to the saltwater aquarium world... and I need some help. I have a 40 gal saltwater tank which I have owned for about three weeks.. it consists of snails...live rock... 1 chocolate chip star... and 1 clown....

Anywho - to my question - I bought a Octopus BH-100 hang on the back protein skimmer... which hardly came with any directions. I hooked the entire thing up and it has been having good and bad days. Tonight I noticed that there is absolutely no foam be produced and the skimmer does not seem to be pumping as much water as it once was. Like I said, I am completely new to this - PLEASE HELP!

(Ps over the past few weeks I have adjusted the intake on the pump to get it correctly running; however, even with adjustments it is just not pumping anything)
