Hi, forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place....I am a newbie. Just brought this guy home yesterday. Gave it a 2 hr acclimation, and left lights off for the rest of the day and all night. He was very inflated (his foot) when I put him in my tank, and tumbled around all night. Came in this morning and found him on the side of rock...I thought this was weird, because I figured he would be upright to get max light. Should I be worried that it remains inflated, or is it still acclimating itself?? I have 2 other Anems tht are very healthy and eat, and open well, so I am not an amateur...tank is about 15 months old, I have plenty of light and 2 power heads running. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Let me know if I am freaking out for no good reason. Thanks!

The color looks good, assuming those anemone are in the same tank, I won't ask about params. I'd let it relax a day or two and try target feeding it.

Yes, they are all in the same tank....thanks. My first thought is that it is ok and that I should just give it some time, but I have never seen one inflate its foot so much.

That is a very pretty anem.
Let him be and he will find a spot. Feed him half a siver side once a week and watch your ph stays stable as well as temperature. Fluctuations of those parms are crucial to keeping anems stationary and happy.

It is a long tentacle anem (Macrodactyla doreensis, I think). I love the color, it has opened up a bit this afternoon. I tried feeding it when I fed my other nem's, but not too much interest. We'll see.

Oh and thanks for the help....another quick question....should I reinforce my clown to check it out (I have heard taping a pic of clown in a nem will do this). I wonder if doing this will help it, your thoughts??

While he is settling in I would not recommend feeding him as it may add to stress. Let him find his place and then feed him. If your light's are suciffecient I would only feed him monthly. How large is your aquarium?

Lta's have a basic need to bury their foot in the sand or deep into a rock crevise. It will likely avoid eating until one of these conditions are met. Until that point you will likely just watch him float around periodically, bouncing around your tank hoping to find a spot as described above. Some people will use a large diameter PVC pipe piece and sit the lta in it withinthe sand to provide this sense of security. (however pay attention to any sharp or rugged edges on the PVC as nOt to tear the foot of the lta.

Secondly, lta's do not host ocellaris clownfish if that was your plan.

Thirdly, what type of anemones did you own aside from this new lta and how long have you had them + what size of aquarium?

For credibility purposes, I just spent twenty minutes typing this entire reply on a damn reply on a cellphone (without a qwerty keyboard). Where's the karma at?

Phayes - on a cell phone, no Qwerty...wow, impressive. Thanks for the input. My tank is a 55gal. I have a sebae and a haitian. They get along fine. The lta has not found a spot...the one in the pic was not good enough I guess. It is just bouncing around again this morning....looks like it wants to dig in the sand because it has stopped in one place though. My other 2 nems are 6 months old and 8 months old and are very healthy. Funny enough, my percula has already started checking the lta out (it was hosting an lta in the lfs when I bought it...but the lfs wanted WAY too much for the lta)....it is really cool to watch. It looks a bit better this morning too...not so bloated. I think all will be fine with this guy, we'll see.
