hhhmm adamfajge, that does concern me. i discussed compatibility with teh guy at thw lfs. i know they sometimes oversell stock but in this case the guy seemed to know what he wa talking about .. and i have dealt with him before. if they're not compatible they will take him back. but i do have clowns too. they are ok with my royal gramma. it will be interesting in 4 weeks when i put the wrasse in my dt. on the other hand i do have a 29 gallon that i was going to set up manily as reef with a few fish. perhaps he can be on of the few.

Clownfihs are very compatible with a Gramma. I would put the Wrasse in theother tank. I had 2 Wrasse die because of a Gramma. Once I removed the gramma my Wrasse afterwards did great. A Gramma wont bother a clownfish but a Fairy Wrasse is a very docile fish and not territoral at all

it took my lubbocks about 2 weeks before he decided to come out all the time. Try feeding him some frozen cyclops while he is hiding so that he can just come out and grab it and not have to look for small pieces. this will cause a little less stress on him. Let him hide untill he is comfy

Im in the process of making a plan to get my royal gramma out of my tank. He was ok with the clown i had before, but hes very aggressive towards my coral beauty and mcclosker wrasse. Both can definately hold their own against him, but i dont like having aggressive fish like that.

my royal gramma was the last fish i added to my tank and he is showing no signs of aggression. in fact he was harassed for the first several days by my yellow tang. that's settled down now but i do think the RG is somewhat humble and will retreat into his cave if the YT comes close. hopefully the RG will still be humble in 4 weeks wheh i was going to introduce the wrasse. in the mean time, the wrasse is eating very well. feeding him garlic coated pellets. he's incredibly adaptive to getting into little wee nooks & crannies.

I think you should put the Gramma into the QT and add the Wrasse in the maintank and let him get established for a few weeks then try the gramma as your last fish. You always wan tto try to add the more aggressive fish last. If you do it the other way around there is a good chance the Gramma will give the Wrasse a heart attack. There is still a chance even when adding the Gramma last but less of a chance. Good Luck

Thanks adamfajge. It's now been almost 4 weeks since I put the wrasse in qt. He's doing great and rarely hides (he's the only fish in qt). My gramma is not aggressive towards any of the fish in my main tank. But he does take exception to my p'mint shrimps if they get into one of his caves. But the gramma only does the open mouth thing, it never acts agressively towards the shrimp. After talking to my lfs, they suggested what you did adam, although they suggested only keeping the gramma out for a day. I'll probably do it this weekend, provided my daughter, who has taken a keen interest in this unfolding gramma drama (sorry). is home from school

Just a follow up, FYI. Last weekend I added the wrasse into my main tank. I attempted to put him in an isolation (breeder) tank at first to assess how the gramma would react. I added him at night after th elights had been off for about an hour. I wasn't quick enough to get the top on the breeder tank and the wrasse went right to the bottom and into the lr. The next day, after the lights came on, the yellow tang was bullying the wrasse but the wrasse was coming out of th rocks. The gramma was totally ignoring the wrasse. After a few days the tang ignored it too. The wrasses is swimimng freely in the tank, everyone's happy! Thanks all for your great input, especially you's adam for it made me think twice about just dumping the wrasse into the mt. I'm no expert but I think what might have helped is that the wrasse was isolated in my qt for about 5 weeks and it had recuperated from all the stresses involved in capture and shipping to my lfs. When I put him in my mt, he appeared much more at ease than when I originally purchaed him.
