I have a 77 gallon tank with fish, some polyps, an anemone and inverts. My current lighting is two T8's and two T5's HO, I have one blue and one daylight of each. Two questions, is it enough lighting overall?? Second question, if it is, should I have both blues on the T8's or the T5's?? Not too good with lighting and apparently neither is my local pet store!:-[

whats the wattage of the lights? thats one waay to determine if youve got enough. i believe its genrally 4-5 to 1 in regards to watts per gallon ,also d3epends on depth of your tank. but with the t8's you might be a bit on the low side for alot of corals. but in your case , i would have the actinics on the 8's and the ho's on the 5's.

THe T8's are 42" and the T5's are 34", the tank is 47 inches long by 22 inches deep. the T8's are 40 Watt each the T5's are 39Watts. I would definatly change to the appropriate lighting if I knew what that was! I don' keep a whole lot of coral in it, I had put my frogspawn in it and it did not do well so I had to put him back in my 30 gallon.

Yea, that's not a lot of light at all. I would upgrade to a nice T5 fixture or MH fixture. A 6x54w T5 would be really good for that tank or a 2x250w MH, but keep in mind you may encounter heat issues.

with t5's you would need 48" fixture. each one of those bulbs is 54 watts. with a 6 bulb set, that would 324 watts, which would allow you to keep a larger selection of coral, even your spawn. lol. good luck with it all

thanks so much for the information, I've written it all down and will go shopping. I'd love to keep my hood but I think it's not an option at this point.
