Hey everyone. Right now I have a 65 Gallon Marineland tank, no sump, with fish and coral.
I've had it running for around 2 years.

And I also have a 38G Nuvo that's been up for about 8-9 months.

I'm thinking about doing a slight upgrade to the 65G, getting a 90G reef ready tank.
The 65 Gallon is 4 foot long, 1 feet front to back, and 2 feet top to bottom. So it's a little taller than most I think.

Anyway, I really love my Nuvo because it's all tank, nothing hang on back, no cords, etc. That's what I want, so I think I'll like the sump, and the extra 6 inches front to back.

But is upgrading from a 65 to a 90 kind of dumb? I'd like to go to like a 120+, but space wise it could be tough.

Am I missing anything in my pieces list?
(I have the lighting, and about 55lbs of LR)
    90 Gallon Tank + Stand
Eshopps RS75 - Not sure if that's the size I need or not.
    Smaller Reactor, maybe a TLF.
    Some sort of Skimmer.
    More LR

I currently have an Aqua C Remora Pro HOB Skimmer, but I'm assuming I wouldn't be able to use that, unless I want to hang it on the back like it is now, right?

Aside from Aqueon and Marineland, I'm not really finding many tank options that aren't custom.
I think my Nuvo might have the starfire glass, which looks so much better than the 65G Marineland. But I know something like that in a 90G is going to cost a lot.

    Any thoughts or commented appreciated.

I have a 55 gal and thought about upgrading to a 90 recently. But since my tank is already 4', I would only really be gaining the extra 6". The extra 4" height doesn't mean too much and is less important than the actual footprint of the tank (for a FOWLR, IMO). I did get a relatively large sump for my tank (Eshopps R-200 which is 30 gallons) which makes up for the extra volume anyways. So I told myself it was not worth it and would wait until we could do a 120+.

But if you can get one for a good deal, than go for it! That sump may be a little on the small side for that setup. I would say go larger if you are going to do this. You could still use your skimmer as a HOB in the sump if you wanted to. But not sure if it could handle the extra volume.

As far as the tank itself, if you get a stand with a nice tall (~8") matching canopy, than that can hide anything that can't be put down in the sump. You can hang your lighting in there and run powerhead cords behind. Paint the back of the tank. If you do this, then you basically have all of the advantages of one of the per-built systems at half the cost!

I always say this to people who talk about getting a 90... get a 120 instead. The cost isn't much different and the extra 6" you get is well worth it.
