It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The tank is a 28 gallon JBJ nano. Chaeto can go in the back or in the display.

Not sure what a nerve snail is.

As for nassarius snails, they don't eat algae, but they will eat the excess food the puffers leave, which should help with nutrient export. They're pretty small, though, so your puffers might eat them.

Chaeto is algae, so it will take up the same nutrients as all algae, hopefully outcompeting the nuisance stuff.

haha yes sorry i meant nerite snail but my computer auto-corrected it!

I will look into getting cheato. I know they sell it at my lfs. What lighting does it need?
I got a quick crew from reef cleaners and most of the small snails have been eaten but there are few remaining. All the larger snails are still alive after a few weeks.

I was wondering! Gotta love autocorrect.
Chaeto can take just a regular spiral-type 65K bulb.

Maybe I missed it, but do you run a skimmer? I know they're difficult to fit on a nano, but I'd say one is essential on a predator tank.

Which brings me to my next point, is a nano really suitable for puffers? I fear you're creating your own nightmare.

Yes, I run a Remora skimmer. It collects a lot of stuff. I empty it daily and clean it once a week!

Honestly, I don't think it's right people trying to help you band-aid this situation. You know it yourself. You have way more fish than a 28 gallon can handle.

I happen to think a fish can not look "happy". It can only look like a fish. It may be fat, but it isn't going to be very happy if you want to use that word in a filthy undersized environment.

I really feel you should give one up till you can get a bigger tank. Not justify keeping it bc it looks happy... :-/

I agree a big cuc would help, but wouldn't those fish just eat them?

About the blackout. You have 0 nitrates bc the algae is sucking it up. If you black out all that means is that the algae won't be sucking up the nitrates, etc.

I don't mean to come across mean. But feel like the info should be shared...

    Good luck.

well by happy I mean they don't have black stomachs all the time. GSP's tend to have black bellies when they they are unhappy. But, i see what you mean. I have had these guys for two years. They have been living in a 30 gallon since they were born, but I have been battling algae the whole time. I would hate to give them up.

All algae has a cause. A great combination that has worked for me in the past is chemipure elite and Purigen. Both are excellent phosphate removers. What are your current phosphate levels? Also, a ReefCleaners custom CUC would help. :) and maybe a blackout. just my two cents.

Quick question...maybe I just missed it, BUT if the tank has only been up since Jan what did you keep them in before for the past "2 years"?
