Ok so i think about getting a hang on refugium. What i want to know is if i will need any more kind of filtration? I already have a protein skimmer

    Welcome to 3reef

Granulated ferric oxide to remove phosphates and carbon to remove other chemicals in the water are good ideas.

How about a little more system information, inhabitants, tank size, etc.?

    And...Welcome to 3Reef!

a 45 is gonna be too small for a tang once they have grown. even the smallest tangs like lots of swimming room. A hang on fuge for a tank with a tang isnt a bad idea since it give you a decent place to grow some macros you can turn around and feed to the tang.

The GFO & carbon filters mentioned above can be found at bulkreefsupply.com. The have some pretty good viedos and stuff on how they work. One of thier dual canister setups will probably be my next purchase actually.

the best way to achieve the goal you are seeking is a reactor- TLF's are great and inexpensive, but we need to know the dimensions of your sump.

You can also run carbon and GFO in a canister filter. It is slightly less efficient for GFO, but the difference in efficiency is actually fairly negligible on a small tank. Macro algae would be the other type of filtration in a refugium. What you need though depends on how much you feed and how good a job your system if keeping up with the nutrient levels to begin with. Some systems may only need live rock and carbon. Most over about 40g total system water will also need a protein skimmer though, but you have that already. So, it sounds like you may have everything you need, except carbon. I would probably also run GFO to be safe. Macro algae is actually less of a necessity in many tanks IMO, depends on stocking though and can be a good pod habitat, so is useful in that regard.

I also run a refugium (HOB) I put chemi pure in the in take section. once it matures it's a great addition - my refugium is 3 gal on the back of a 75gal.

Just keep in mind it takes time to mature like a tank - I put cheto sand bottom with LR rubble.
