You need a ground to put one lead of your meter to,the other lead will get dipped in the tank, set meter to millivolts,if there is a voltage reading(even a small one) one of your accesories are leaking voltage. And I would also recommend grounding the tank outlets even if thats not what your trouble is.It would be even better and safer to install ground fault interupter (gfi) outlets and make sure they are grounded properly.

Most grounding probes can be used even if your outlet isn't three pronged. They usually come with two ways to attach or plug in. With mine I just unscrewed the outlet cover and used that screw to fasten my probe to the exterior cover. It's a titanium Rip Volt grounding probe cost about $17.00 cdn. every saltwater tank should be grounded.;);)

Ive been keeping my ca at 500 for months though. If my frogspawn somehow died over night could it be releasing toxins? I already did a 25% water change and nothing has improved.

    Update:

Well something must have happened to my frogawawn. I swear I will never get another one in a small tank like I have. This thing is so touchy. I have had heads melt for no reason then grow back. Well 2 days a go it only opened to half it's size (which it does sometimes) when I went to work it must have released all of it's toxin at once into the tank. The 10 head frogspawn is dead, the giant nepthea has black chemical burns on 50% of it and 50% of the skin from my birdsnest has burnt off. The nepthea is still trying to open under my light and is trying to live. Do you think it will pull through? Also the birdsnest (what polyps are left are opening again will this one pull through?

    Thoughts please

It is possible for them to survive. You need to use carbon filtration 24/7 when you have leathers/softies in the tank to keep all your corals healthy and to keep down the chemical warfare. Ca of 500 will stunt and possibly stop all hard coral growth. It is also hard on soft corals.

You should also see what your ALK is. With 500 CA I can imagine your ALK will be very low if you are not buffering

That doesn't look good. I sure looks like a war. Did the frogspawn polyps stick to the leather?
