Just noticed this thread. If you are vacuuming your SB stop!!The Sb never should be disturbed except for the very top layer if needed. Marine tanks and freshwater tanks are completely different in this respect. Also how deep is your SB?Nitrates can leach from rocks and the SB. If the rocks and/or SB get saturated they will release it back into your system which is why you are probably seeing them go down when doing a WC then have them reappear so quickly.IMO I would conitinue an aggresive nutrient export(i.e. more frequent WC'S,Macro algaes, or the use of chemical filtration). If your rocks or SB are saturated then it will take time to remove it but it will happen over time. You can help by not overfeeding or overstocking the tank with fish/inverts. Good luck.;)

vinny thank you for ur input... The substrate is about (as I haven't measured) three inches deep and I suggested to the hubby not to vacuum it every time but rather only once every two to three water changes which are typically byweekly... That's the hubbys problem he is the brackish and freshwater guy but I have always had saltwater... I keep telling him to LEAVE IT ALONE! Hubbys are like monkeys I guess lol they don't listen lol... Anywho I'm headed down to the lfs for more microalgae and a 10 gallon to put it in to run separate from the sump sump... So another overflow and return pump too... Also am gonna do a 40% wc tonight (water is churning now) which is 50 gallons of the main tanks capacity (I did the math this time :) )... Hopefully this will aleviate some if not a lot of the problem...
