any ideas on what this is? It was hiding on the underside of some sympodium I got the other day. I thought at first it was just a piece that was dying off. Im thinking some sort of nudibranch. If so, how do I get it off? sorry the pics aren't better

    What a fantastic find.

What new corals or rock did you get recently.

Unfortunately they are very short lived, very diet specific. If the coral or algae is not in your tank it will die.

Hopefully it's not a coral eater. They very often resemble the corals they eat.

I got 2 types of sympodium that is on two shells that have been puttied together. even though we stared at that thing for about 30 minutes before taking the plunge it has hitch hikers all over it. A couple of mystery corals, some sort of polyp looking thing that come off when it was rinsed (it was thrown out), some astrea stars, and this small yellowish fuzzy pebble looking thing (which I am also thinking is some sort of nudi). I'm pretty sure it also brought a bristle worm that was sighted a couple of days after its purchase.

Oh silly me I have to read more carefully.

Yeah it looks like Sympodium so it probably eats it bummer.

Still cool, sacrifice your Sympodium to feed it. LOL

    Yup, exactly.

They always resemble what they eat, and this one sure looks like Sympodium. ;)

it surely is. I googled "sympodium nudibranch" and that pic came up:p Question is, what do I do with it? I'm not a fan of killing stuff, but even if I wanted to keep it theres no way of keeping it fed in the long run, and if it dies its probably super toxic, right?

See if the LFS wants it back.

How toxic the particular nudibranch is might be very hard to nail down.

I could not find the scientific name. The link below is a Nudibranch/Sea Slug forum. Perhaps you can find more information.

That species eats soft corals for sure. I would get all white ones on different leathers corals form wholesalers all the time back in the day. They are pest in my book.

LOOK FOR EGGS. they will be a spiral white loops about 3/4" in diameter. Usually located on the base or under the rock in hard to see spots.
