Fish flakes will work fine. That's what I've used.

I woke up this morning to a crystal clear tank! The sand hes finally settled down, and the tank now has like white foam around the edges, and smells a bit? Is this normal, or does it just mean that the cycle is starting?
I havn't put anything in yet but should I put the flakes in now?

    Thank You :)

White foam: Did you use a clarifier for the Arag-Alive sand? If so, that happened to me too. I just used a few papertowels to remove it.

And yes, you could put some flakes in now.

I Didn'tuse a clarifier for the sand i just added the sand to the water maybe when I added the sand to the water air bubbles in the sand floated up carrying debris, acting like a skimmer?
Anyways, does it matter how much food I add?

I added a pinch for my 38, so I would say a small pinch would do for your 10.

I put the fish food between two filter cartredges, so that they are not in sight, do you think that this will make a difference on how fast or how good the cycle goes? TIA.
