Hey folks, I'm in a little pickle stressing my new setup..

10 gallon standard with 15lbs of live sand and 8lbs of live rock, using sea water.

I have another 6lbs of live rock sitting in a bucket with no air pump or circulation, I don't have any equipment for that. The reason it's not in the tank is because I was waiting on the sand to settle.. What happens if this stays in the bucket for the next 24hrs with no air exchange??

I have to admit I decided to skimp, since I already had a 700gph mag drive pump (the ones you use for ponds) I dropped that in there. It's rated at 600gph at 1' of head. I put a 3/4" pvc with 2x outlets (i'd say about 1' of pipe and 2x 90 degree turns) now for the *possible* issue.. My water is moving so much the sand bed is moving.

My main concern is since I am cycling and I was hoping to put all my rock in the tank tomorrow morning that I wont be able to or that my rock will die or ???

Help. Didn't think this was ASAP Emergency but maybe??

I don't think your rock will die... you may get a bit of die-off, which could just help kick start your cycle anyways. If your sand doesn't settle though, you're going to want a smaller powerhead/pump.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You need some flow for oxygenation to keep the nutrifying aerobic bacteria alive.

Not a big deal it can always be recycled.

Not sure why you're waiting for the sand to settle to add the rock, I would just add it and move it around later if need be.

Do not know what to tell about the pump.

Alrighty.. So I put all the rocks in the tank, and cut baffles in the pvc, I don't have a drill. It's a lot of water flow, the surface is moving so much it sounds like a hob filter is running. The sand has stopped moving though. My water is at 79 with the pump running, so no heater for now.

I think this will work while it cycles. For the record i'm using live sand, very live rocks, and water that was pulled from the ocean yesterday.

I'm just going to order my hydor 425gph tonight and put it in once it arrives. Wish I knew if this is going to be too much also.. :\

Scrap the powerhead and buy a smaller pump.
10 gallon tank, you won't ever settle it down with your current flow.
What's the params on the "ocean water" where did you take it from ? There are lots of toxins in water that's close by humans, between sunscreen, oils, fuels, trash and all the other crap we pump in the ocean.

I personally think my RODI with my salt and "care" is better than the real deal.

There are 12 LFS in my area, about 20 mile radius (30+ if I don't mind driving an hr), they all get water from the ocean from a service. From my understanding it's drawn at about 200' depth so that would be at least 10 miles off the coast. I'm in Miami FL. The shop I went with was nice enough to check it with a refractometer before I left and said I could bring water in every couple of weeks they will check it for me if I want.

Lol, please don't worry me. :[

Do you think a 425 Hydor Koralia is too much?? Would I be better off with a 225 Hydor Nano??
