Help save a zoa!

My friend who has an awsome tank was switching out corals. He runs Halid lights. I run coral lights one white one blue atinic. He gave me a cluster of Zoa's and for the first week they were great looking and fully open. I had them placed on the bottom of the tank. I noticed today that they were closed and discolored dark on one side of the rock an lighter on the other side. It appears there are some bleached spots on them also. I moved them up higher in the tank today before work thinking this would maybe help? I will check on them tonight and try to send a picture out. All other soft corals in the tank are thriving. If you have any idea what is going on please help.

All chems were good when I checked last night.

 

could just be new tank. getting used to new lighting water params ect.
what kinda lights do you have?

 

Halides make a big difference and the switching from the to another style, or vice versa, can be stressful for certain corals to overcome. Also, the amount of time that the existing bulbs have been used can alter the lux, PAR and PUR of the bulb and ultimately that intensity that reaches your inhabitants.
What corals do you have in close proximity to the zoanthids?
When you say all water parameters are good...what water parameters are you talking about?
How are the other corals doing in your tank? This is a very important question!!!

I am testing ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, and alk.

Forgive me for mispelling or saying the wrong names of the corals but I have two pulsing xenias, one mushroom, and the cluster of Zoa's. The bulbs are only a month old. I will be off work soon so i will check on them. My wife told me they have opened up a bit more so I have some hope.

Sorry I did not put that in there they are power compacts.

 

Their is a big difference between halides and power compacts, intensity wise and in regards to what you can keep and not keep in your tank-color and types of Tridacna clams and corals for instance!!!!

 

Zoas can be tricky when they start to decline. Good luck. I would put them has high in the tank as you, and give them a increased flow.

 

I did just that and they look much better. no I have a new problem with alge due leaving the lights on to long.
