What type of sand bed does the set up have. Is it a deep sand bed? Did you stir up the sand bed. Did you change anything?

How often are you doing wc's?
    Do you have a refugium?

Not sure, it is a medium grain, my gobies sift it. its not deep, and no stirring of any kind I have not made any changes to the system.

every week and no effect on the numbers. It hard for me to say what equipment I have, I dont understand all the terminology yet. I will post pics of my entire set up

Did you aquire it in the same position it is now or did you have to move it and transfer everything.

    Here's my story.

the tank was a custom build, I have been with the tank from day 1 but the care of the tank was handled by someone else, however slowly the condition of the tank went down and the care taking was left to me so thats where I am at now.

I have never thought I would enjoy the hobby as much as I do, which is why I am committed to bringing the tank up to speed. I am playing catch up while trying to fix the tank.

I would start with bigger water changes. How often you do them?

Correct, I can slow/temporary bring some numbers down with dosing but return right away.

ammonia is 0, I recently did a large water change with no effect but raising my alk up.

I perform a water change every week
