    Forum:

This morning we noticed our Sea-Pen has become dislodged from our DSB and seems to be doing fine fully extended but on its side.

We have dug a hole and placed it back in it position dont know if it will hold. If this does not work is there a way or procedure to get it to resit itself again?

    Thanks

One typically doesn't want to bury the base of a gorg in the substrate, as the buried tissue becomes necrotic and can travel up the stalk. This may be why it came loose in the first place.

What you want to do is strip the flesh from the bottom part of the gorg, then either glue it into a hole in a rock, or shove it into a crevice in the rockwork. Healthy tissue will grow down over the stripped/glued portion of the gorg, thus attaching it permanently.

Greg thanks brother for the feed back. As far as the striping just pull on it till it comes off?

Cut it with an Exacto knife or scalpel.

Good advice for a gorgonian however if I remember correctly, he has a real sea pen and not a gorgonian. Sea pens bury in the sand bed. They will occasionally uproot themselves in search of a better spot. I would leave it alone and see if reattaches. Definitely don’t cut it.

    TritonsGarden:

This is true mine buried itself when we first bought it and had been that way until now. We will wait a day or so and see what happens ...We will keep you all informed...

    Again Thanks for the advise

The trouble with common names...the scorp world is REALLY bad in that respect.

Obviously, what works for a gorg isn't relevant here.

    Greg@LionfishLair: Agreed!

Forum thanks for the replay's. However, it seems to still be on its side and will not bury itself like it use to. We are not sure what to do at this point. :(

    Forum: Obese Sea Pen

We have tried looking up info but it seems to be scarce especially in our case....

It seems to be healthy yet we have tried to re-set it in our DSB with no success it keeps loosing itself. We have left it alone for the past few days with no noticeable change.

Is there anything that can be done? or do we just let it tumble throughout our tank like a tumble weed..... :(

i have never owned a sea pen, but from what I understand of them, they will uproot themself if there is some problem with water conditions or something else bothering it. Have you checked all your parems lately? Have you changed anything in your tank? Problem with it is if it doesnt root itself, it isnt going to send out its tenticles and will starve

I would do a water test and then do a water change? Cant think of anything else? Have you changed the tank flow?
