I added a 100 micron filter sock to my drain outlet in my sump yesterday and immediately my Bubble Magus skimmer went nuts...pouring out microbubbles like crazy. No matter which way I adjust it, they just keep pouring out. And it's pulling out basically water in the collection cup. What is going on?

You might check your pH, Ca and ALK that was the issue with mine just a few days ago when it started going wild. I was told its caused by the change in water tension.

I was having the same issue with my Ca and thanks to pink4miss suggesting Kalk+2 everything perfect no more skimmer craziness. I was dosing with BRS before great stuff but I couldn't keep up with the adequate dosing i don't think. So as long as i monitor my ALK everything else stays perfect.

Do you turn the skimmer off when dosing calcium? Or anything for that matter? Maybe my daily additions of Magnesium where upsetting the skimmer?

so you added the sock and your skimmer went nuts sounds like thier is residue on the sock.. that is ... if its new or you washed the sock with a detergent

are you running carbon... if not you can run that for 24 hours than try again... my skimmer is external so i know that adding anything new is a no no >>> lol

ive seen this more times than one being a chemical on a new filter sock etc..

Yes, it was a new sock--I rinsed it out before putting in...the skimmer has calmed down a little but still the collection cup is collecting clear water almost exclusively. The residue on the sock theory makes sense. The days leading up to the sock, the skimmer was producing more bubbles than usual, but the sock triggered a whole new level.
