    UPDATE: the skimmer has pretty much calmed down. Probably was the filter sock residue that caused the freakout--marks called it!

    Yup, happens to me all the time. I'm lucky enough to be able to just open the skimmer all the way for a few hours.

    New ..used,but clean... my felt ones would make the skimmer useless for a day.Tried some mesh ones,skimmer doesn't skip a beat.Only use the mesh ones now...and there a joy to clean as well.
