    Hey Guys I need help,
Here is the story, I had a really bad Red Slime bloom (Cyano bacteria)?
I treated this with UltraLife Red Slime Remover UltraLife Red Slime Remover is a revolutionary time tested product, that will effectively and safely remove Red Slime quickly from all Coral and Invertebrates, blaah, blahh blaah, you know.

Anyway it worked, and took it out,
Now along with doing that I had two Phosban reactors with charc media going, and had my UV Going, I had some other home emergancies I had to deal with the Home cent heating went out, and took all of saturday to repair, the place I get my water from wasnt open on Sundays.
Long story short this stuff was in my tank for two days longer then it should have before I could deal with it all the other stuff was left to run in lew of the issues I had.
So now after doing water changes, a brown not red thick film is covering everything, Reefs and the Sand bed its almost like the tank is popping but its been a month now thinking it would go away but its not so I dont know whats going on.

Now I an starting to see brown hair like stuff growing in the lower flow areas.
    What is going on?
The Corals seem to be only slighty effected but its starting to make me feel like a hemophiliac in a Razorblade factory.
    Help!!! :-/

Oh Addendum I had cut down the Light time and is still lowered as far as the hours per day and no effect.

I am having the same problem. It starts off light brown and then gets darker with the long strands. I took a picture to my lfs and he said BROWN ALGAE. He had me buy Algaefix. You dose every 3 days then it says once a week to prevent algae growth. I Dosed Saturday and (the algae seems to be lighter in color after the 1 dose) gotta do the second tomorrow.

    Google Brown Algae.

    Hope this helps.

Algaefix and those chemicals certainly do have a use, however, if you can't get rid of the root cause you will only mask the problem and in the end it will come back to haunt you. I'm sure that the folks on 3reef will be able to point you in the right direction to get you started on getting this under control. How old is the tank? how old are your light bulbs? livestock? feeding (what and how much/often)? Flow? Fuge? Parameters (as many as you can give us)? That should get us started. Hope we can help.

Im sure mods can change it to it. No need to say it the way you did.

As for the tank, a picture of the tank and answering the questions above can definitely help. Parameters are a must in order for us to know what's going on.
Also, do you use RO water or Tap?

Thank you for the Help I didnt know it was algae, so my concern was great I have a lot of stuff I didnt want to loose yeah that answer from brunoboarder244 was a bit abrasive but he's from the Bronx so he was just saying Hi. :)

Anyway my tank is about a year and a half old, my light are Hameltons, 14K 250 watts 6 monthe old halides 3 of them, the attenics are 5 monthes old T5 6, 3 Foot balbs,
I have two external pumps one 3000 gph 3 feet of head on that one circulation to the back of the tank to and from the main tank.

then I have one internal pump that is 1630 gph chained into the other external that is about 5000 gph and its plumbered between the pumps with an underwater T open at one fitting inside the refug so that the primary pumps ability to pull water isnt constricted, how ever this pump is dealing with about 8 feet of head up to a chiller then back down into the tank refugium? is a bit dirty with build up I use Treated tap water that is supposed to nutralize heavy metals and chlor\chlormines? and other bad stuff.
Water changes are done with sea water made up from RO water,
Calc is at around 440 Alc is around 9 other stuff I havent test for.

Its a 180 12 fish different sizes lots of hard and soft corals
This all started when one of the large fish died and I couldnt get to him under the reef it was a huge Ras so e could have darted under the sand or?
Then the Red slime came then the treatment then the grown stuff.
I try not to over feed and only ocationally feed the corals with something like Coral feast I try not to over do it

I'm sorry I got a little confused there, you use treated tap water for top offs and ro for wc's? Did I read that okay? If so the tap water would be the first place I would look for the cause of the algae.

Have you got any test kits on hand? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, etc? You will get a false reading on the phosphate and nitrate if there is algae in the tank but if there are still readings then we know that they are high and we can deal with finding the cause of that. Also if you can, run the nitrate and phosphate tests on your treated tap water?
