    Hello everyone,

I just found out today after over a year of research and trying to find an answer, that my 125 gallon tank is made of tempered glass! :bigcry:

With this in mind, what brand and size of HANG ON THE BACK overflow box should I use on my tank to feed the sump? I know that it needs to be the U style tubing to reduce the odds of losing siphon, but what else?

Also, what size return pump should I use? I have absolutely no ideas or experience when it comes to building a sump and the required equipment I will need.

I remember seeing an add for a overflow box that was guaranteed to never lose siphon or flood or they would give a money back guarantee...but now I can't remember the exact name of the company.

Please help me out and let me know ASAP! If you need any additional info just let me know.

Look into a CPR overflow. They use the Tom pumps to maintain siphon and if a powerloss occurs it will restore siphon when power is back on. You match your return pump to the flow capacity of the overflow.

    Example:

CS100 is for tanks up to 175 Gallons and has a flow rate of 800 GPH. You would want to find a return pump that could match that rate while considering the length of tubing required to get back to the tank. The more ft of tubing required to return to the tank the higher the flow rate will be.

    CPR CS Overflow Boxes

    Good luck.

It does not need it to keep the siphon, it just assists with removing air bubbles and re-establish the siphon if it breaks during a loss of power. The Tom pump is an option not a requirement of the CPR system. I like having the security of the pump.

I would go w/ an eshopps over a cpr. My friend does nothing but piss n moan about how when the tom gets clogged or stops working the overflow loses its siphon and his tank overflows. I use to use the u-tube siphons and if I ever have another tank that is not drilled, I will purchase an overflow w/ a u-tube for it. I never had a problem with it.

I definitely will go with a U tube style overflow. With that in mind, what kind of maintenance is required with this style of overflow? Is keeping the box and tubing clean a real hassle or is it fairly easy?

And one extra note, while looking at the eshopps overflows, should I go with the PF 800 that is rated for a 125 gallon tank (800 GPH)? Or would it be ill advised to go with the PF 1000 which is rated for a 200 Gallon tank (900 GPH)?

+1 I have a CPR with the lifter pump and if it wasn't only 6 months old I'd get one of the Eshopps. about every other day the tubing gets clogged even after I got black tubing to minimize algae buildup, results in a large air bubble forming across the top of the overflow.

The PF800 with a mag 7 return pump is a good combination. The PF900 with the Mag 7 works well too or you an go with a Mag12 and add a manifold to run a skimmer or reactor from it as well as the return.
