appologize if this is not the correct place. My neighbor has got it into his head that he needs to buy fish tonight, and against my better judgement and because his friend has a tank that is 3 months old and rediculously overloaded and nothing has died yet, i'm in a quandry here.

he wants a flame angel, will that work in a reef enviromnent with a clown fish and a blue hippo tang? will it eat coral?

also wants a coral banded shrimp. i've read these are bad, trying to steer him towards a pederson shrimp or skunk cleaner shrimp.

So anyway, i'm not going to get out of the fish store without him buying a fish tonight and he wants a flame angel, so will that work, or is there another small angel that will work. its a 28g tank. and please don't say an angel won't go in there because he has a friend with 9 fish in the same size tank and I'm not winning that battle. obviously an emperor angel ain't going in, but he gonna put the fish in one way or the other, so rather have one that isn't going to destroy the coral.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Impulsive and saltwater do not mix well and often leads to a bad outcome for the fish and the tank.

He needs to provide for a more appropriate home for the hippo tang, before he even thinks about another fish.

Best think you can do is buy him a book and encourage him to do some research.

    Good Luck

yikes..... uh no more fish for him!

coral bandeds are harmless i have had a huge one for about 1.5 yrs with small and large fish (and coral) with no problem at all.

yea i know, but the fish going in whether we like it or not, best I can do is steer him to an angel fish that won't eat the coral or anything else.

I know you are trying to help, but I would really try to steer him in the direction of a soft corals or easy invert, until he sees the light or gets rid of the tank.

An angel has a risk of nipping at clams and corals, but I have a feeling that is not going to be an issue in the long run.

yea, the fish going in tonight, no way around that, so a flame angel will nip at corals and clams, what about other small angels?

It might help if you explain to him

that Steve Wright has a 8 year old son who likes to come to the LFS with him
and almost every time he picks out something that would not be suitable for our tank

sharks, turtles, lobster, Regal Angels etc

when I explain to him why we cannot have the species he selected , he frowns, accepts it and we move on

tell your friend , he lacks the maturity of an 8 year old

    hope that helps

    Im closing this thread now

it was posted in ASAP - which it should not have been
and I dont believe any more time should be devoted by our caring members on the impulse buying out of desire by a non 3 reef member
