I have been running a 2 little fishies reactor 150 with between half to a whole amount of the smallest container of material in the reactor. I use a maxi-jet 600 to power it. when its new i bleed it to get out some of the brown that comes out, but i think it keep putting the brown dust into the water. Since using it, i have a noticable amount of skim on the tank and when you stick you hand in the water or an object it comes out with yellow on it.

Could it be this that is contaminating my water? How do you run phosban without all this wet dust getting into your tank?

    Thanks

I rinse the Phos ban really really well in a strainer before I put it in the reactor then I capture the first gallon of water that passes through the reactor I hope you are rinsing first that might be your problem I am pretty sure it says to rinse the stuff before adding it to the reactor on the bottle.

I switched to PhosGuard media in my TLF 150, with the 600 pump, I rinse the white pellets in RO water and they make a snap and pop noise until they are rinsed clean, the water is then clear, doesn't take very long, that lasts longer and does not leach phosphates back into tank and if you only run the reactor for a week or so at a time, you can rinse and let the media dry and re use it until it starts to get dark brown colored. I run my reactor all the time, only using about a cup and a half of the PhosGuard. That's just what I do.

That's about what I do. I fill the reactor with about 3 tbs. of RowaPhos, another 4 or 5 inches of carbon, and run it, hung on the side of a 5 gal bucket filled with RO/DI. I have another bucket at the ready with another 5 gallons of RO/DI in it. After about 30 min's, I lift the reactor out of bucket one, and down into bucket 2. After another 30 min's or so, it's into the sump, and the two 5 gallon buckets of course, go down the drain.

If your water is yellowish, use carbon and that'll be taken care of.

    Good luck! :)

Yeah, these reactors need very slow flow to work properly. I think they are recommended to run about 50gph through them to ensure high contact time. I hope that helps. :)
