In my 80 gal DT that I am building I am going to run the Reef Octopus 150 protein skimmer in my custom sump/fuge. What do you guys recommend as far as return pump?

Also will 2 koralia 4's do the job for circulation in my DT?

    Thanks

    Jay

I dont think it will be too much just dont put the nose cone on the koralia. It focuses the flow too much and you may start digging holes in your sand bed.

I have two pumps in my 55 right now and I am wanting another to stir up the bottom a bit more. It may work out better to have 3 or 4 smaller pumps so you can aim them in different directions.

Mag 9.5 or Ocean Runner 3500, or the Eheim 1262 if you want to spend the money on a high quality return pump should be good I think. You would probably be fine with a step down from all of those as well. Anything in the 600-800gph range should be fine.

Also for powerheads it depends what you want to keep. 2 K4's should be fine for most things. If you're keeping a lot of SPS you might want to bump that up to 3 K4's though.

Ditto on multiple smaller pumps might be easier to get flow everywhere you want although you have to suffer with more tank real estate eaten up by powerheads and more cords in the tank etc.

As long as your return pump is putting less water into the tank then is going through the overflow you are good. What is your overflow rated to? And how far does the water have to go to reach your tank?
