    Hello guys,

i'm using a BrightWell Amino Acids and there are two recommendations:

    - Target Feeding
    - Broadcast Feeding

I also feed my SPSs with a mix of Zoo, Phyto and ReefChilli.

Can i add the AA in this mix and feed the corals or the AA have to be dosed alone?

Beats me why you guys buy all that food junk to dump in your tanks , I have yet to ever find a need for it , Its simply nothing more then slick advertising to separate you from your money . Enough AA's are released from the normal food you put into the tank and they simple become DOC's and work for the skimmer and or food for algae .

And Brightwell is a new supplement manufacture to hit the market like Kent's and so on.. They all are smelling Money now days , I was sent several samples from a wholesaler to get feed back from on how they worked .. I did try the strontium and that was about it the rest is still in the box..

I heard that some people had good results with coral coloration using AA, so i'm thinking to try.

You really think that's not necessary?
I also heard that corals doesn't use AA like food, but like a suplementation.

Corals just need carbon to live and they get carbon in two ways, One is through photosynthesis by the algae kept inside their bodies and the second by feeding on the zooplankton that comprise their diets."
While corals like mature Clams can get all the carbon they need from the algae's photosynthesis they still get some of what they need through normal feeding like ground up flake food and fish Poo an settled out sludge from the sumps . Mots stuff you see markets as coral food is snake oils .. Lighting and K and Par values are what give corals their coloration and growth rates ..

I find most stuff marketed as coral food is simply sugar carbons and 99% water in what is called coral food .. And these can lead to algae problems .

    Unsderstood,

    thanks for the explanation Tangster.

So you think that Vodka is a good source of carbon for the corals and bacteria?

Some people uses vodka just for increase the biomass of bacteria that will consume NO3 and PO4. You think that this source of carbon can increase the coral growth too because them use it like a source of energy or because of the decrease of the nutrients within the water by the consuption by the bacterias?

LOL I propagate corals for a living and I would never does Vodka with the intention of it supplying coral a source of food , The people who do does Vodka are using it to lower Nitrates , The DSB did not preform and advertised so the sugar feed bacterium that consumes the NO3's I myself Use a simple NO3 coil .. Add just a little to much Vodka or at the wrong time and they entire tanks can fail and loose everything in it . I have experienced that a few times with others and their aftermath .
