Help with Algae

    I have this algae that i think is Cyano bacteria. Here are some pics. Can i use red slime remover to kill it?

    how long has your tank been up and running? looks like to me your going through a cycles what are your water parameters??

    My paramaters are:
    Nitrates: 5
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Specific Gravity: 1.026
    and my tank has been setup for almost a year.

    hm yea i think its diatoms, which is a brown algae, dont put any chems in yet my guess it should be gone in a few days, you could maybe siphon some off your sand when you do your next water change id just leave it for a little bit and it should disapear on its own.

    Lucky!! You live in Destin! I go there every summer! :) Just wave you hand over the rock or brush it off with a tooth brush. Worked for me! :)

    Diatoms feed on silicates. Are you using tap water? Add any new plastic?

    Yep Destin is pretty nice. I like it here. Have you ever gone to the Destin Jetty? Its awesome i have caught butterflyfish, atlantic blue tangs, doctorfish tang, sargaent major damsels, cocoa damsels, black urchins, grouper, blennies, blue-head wrasse, and one i even caught a baby blue angel but it was just floating barely breathing in the water after a hurricane :(.
    Anyways, i brush the rock off often but it comes back the next day after i turn the lights back on. Is this normal? Thanks!

    I did just add a new refugium made out of plastic, and two maxi jet 1200's.
