I've got a 110 gallon tank on hold and now am designing the overflow.
I saw a style I like that uses 3 pipes one at full siphon but throttled so some goes down an open stand pipe with a 3rd pipe that is the emergency backup and hopefully will never see water. They are drilled from the back and rest in a Calfo (coast to coast) style overflow.

The person used 2 down turned 90 degree street elbows w/ the 3rd turned up.

As you can see by the pics I can hide the Calfo overflow box by setting the bottom at or just above where the black glass starts. As an added plus the glass side bracing can be used as frag racks ;D

The problem is that I'll have to drill the holes in the back wall under the box and have elbows come up into it, or have a standpipe in the DT coming from the bottom and into the box.

I plan on doing 2 more smaller holes into the back for returns.

you could drill for two bulkheads with the strainers and attach pipe( i have sump pump hose) to your sump.

To the extent possible I really want to avoid having stuff in the tank visible especially something going the whole height of the tank. I guess I just need to know if my idea will work.
