The freshwater fish is not a suitable food for long term for this fish. It will result in vitamin deficiencies and fatty build ups. You are better off seeing if you can get him to eat some frozen formula 1 or mysis. You could try Krill if you like. I would try some fresh seafood from safeway like some mussels or clam or squid. You could try some on a shiscabob stick till he gets used to the dead foods then switch him to frozen. Some garlik might help tempt him if he is a italian fish..hehe

    + 1 feeder fish a day it a lot.
If you can get him on Krill you will be better off.
Of course, as an x lion x piranha owner there are sicko advantages to golden fish... ;)

I've had a dwarf zebra lion for a week now and I cant get him to eat a thing. He's only about 2 inches in length. i've tried mysis, brine, and squid. How do you get this fish to feed?

I have read that to get the lion fish to eat (because they can be stubborn) just put the food on a stick or something and tap him on the nose a couple of times with it. If not have you tried live food most fish won't touch anything dead for a while until he gets use to it.

    yep

I second Wigger. Mollies were always the old standby because they could/would survive long enough to entice the most finicky eater. If you acclimate them, they will survive a long, long time (assuming the lion remains uninterested.) Had a lion for 3 yrs. in the early 1980's. Would not take anything that was not live, no matter how good it looked. Mollies and goldfish were his staple. Had piranhas too. Oh the stories. There is something intensely exhilarant and intoxicating about hunting and consuming live prey. Nature at its most wondrous.
